ZULL Dry Riesling- Ried Innere Bergen, Niederösterreich, Austria-2021-----94 points- $29.95 - ships in 6 bottle case
The Innere Bergen vineyard Riesling grows in the stoniest soils, mostly granite at the highest point (300 meters) of the small village of Schrattentahl. Fragrant notes of white tea, pear and ginger give way to a zesty palate with dammed up energy. Delicious now, but even better after 2024 if you can wait!
What the Critic’s say:
Score - 94. Peter Moser- Falstaff
Light yellow-green, silver reflections. Multi-faceted bouquet of white peach, lime zest, a hint of quince, meadow herbs. Juicy, good complexity, taut, elegant, mineral, papaya, lemony finish, certain ageing potential.
The 18 hectare Zull winery is located in the Weinviertel region of Austria. Estate is family run for over 3 generations by the Zull family. Most northerly of Austria's wine regions sees low rainfall and warm summers with cool night temperatures. Certified sustainable, with more than 25 different plots.
Nature is the prime factor influencing the character of the wines in Northern Weinviertel: fertile soils, hot summer days and cold nights give the grapes their unmistakable aromatics. The uncompromising handwork of the Zull family in the vineyard, unswerving commitment and loving care result in finesse-rich, open, generous wines that are easy to drink. Authentic wines reflecting the region.
