Here's a clean and relatively fresh Lodi chardonnay, still fleshy and ripe in the California style, but neither flabby nor overly woody. There's an attractive stream of baking spice and freshly baked bread flavour (lees contact) but wrapped around a seam of acids that freshen and compact flavours, leading back to ripe lemon and yellow apple fruit. Overall the balance is intact on a larger frame - it's hard not to like this wine - it has much to offer drinkers of all preferences. Tasted May 2020.

Vineyard Notes

The grapes sourced for this wine come from Mohr-Fry Vineyard. This is situated about 7 miles from the Oak Farm Winery in the Mokelumne River sub-AVA. This vineyard has a vertical shoot position trellis system and is located on Tokay sandy soil. Minimal leaves are pulled to allow air throughout the vineyard and vines but do not sunburn the berries. This site is warm during the day to help develop and ripen the berries but cools down at night which helps maintain balance and preserve acidity.
